World famous Whistler is
located in the heart of the Coast Mountain Range two hours north of the
the city of Vancouver, British Columbia. A sea of jagged peaks and flowing
glaciers and icefields dominates the surrounding horizon making this one
of the most rugged and spectacular places on earth.
The buzzing resort
community of Whistler is really just a tiny island of civilization in a
vast region of wilderness. In fact it wasn't until quite recently that
there has been much development in the region. Skiing in the valley
started in 1966 with the opening of Whistler Mountain. Blackcomb Mountain
started operations in 1980. Since the late 80's there has been a frenzy of
development and expansion with Whistler now rated as one of the top
destination resorts in the world.
Located between Whistler
and Blackcomb Mountains Whistler Village makes a perfect base for those
wishing to explore the area. With a variety of hotels for almost every
budget, great restaurants and very healthy nightlife there is plenty to
keep everyone occupied.
In addition to the amazing
downhill skiing there is also lots of snowmobiling, snowshoeing and cross
country skiing.
