It's not hard to see why most critics have continually rated Whistler as the top resort in North America. The most interesting thing is while both mountains sit side by side they both have very unique personalities unto themselves.

Whistler Mountain is renowned for its legendary bowl skiing and is the local favorite on big powder days. It is also where you will find most of the beginner and novice terrain with the Olympic learning area recommended as the starting point for those new to the sport.

Not to be outdone, Blackcomb boasts one of the most remarkable networks of bowl skiing second only to Whistler. Experts will find the skiing off of Spanky's ladder unbelievable while a descent down the Couloir will test the metal of anyone. Advanced intermediates can explore the amazing 10km (6 mile) ski down the Blackcomb Glacier. The mid and lower mountain is a maze of twisty fall line cruisers sure to keep intermediate and advanced skiers busy exploring for days.

Both mountains have great tree skiing however Arthur's Choice on Blackcomb is definitely one of the real standouts.

Where to slide

First time beginners and novices are best to start off at Olympic Station (first stop o the Whistler Gondola) or the bottom of Blackcomb on the magic chair. Confident novices can take on easy out on Blackcomb and then download back to the valley at the end of the day.

Intermediates will find great skiing off the Emerald and Garbanzo chairs on Whistler and the Jersey Cream, Solar Coaster, Excelerator and Seventh Heaven Chairs on Blackcomb.

Advance skiers have lots of choices off of the Harmony, Big Red and Peak chairs on Whistler and the Glacier, Crystal and Seventh Heaven Chairs on Blackcomb.

Expert skiers have lots to explore off  Peak and Harmony on Whistler and anywhere in the high alpine on Blackcomb.

On busy days Garbanzo, Franz's, Catskinner and the Crystal chairs are the least busy.
