Driving to
Whistler vs. taking a shuttle
We recommend
that unless you are planning to do a lot of driving around Whistler you
are better off to take one of the many shuttles up to the resort. The
drive from Vancouver can be challenging for those not familiar with
mountain roads, especially after a long flight. In addition by the time
you pay for a vehicle rental, gas and any parking fees it is often cheaper
just to take the shuttle.
It is nice to
have your own car especially if you plan to stop along the way and pick up
groceries or you are staying well outside the immediate Village area.
However most people don't realize that there is an excellent transit
service in Whistler and we also have lots of taxis.
Respect
your body!
Don't overdue
it on the first day. There is a huge amount of skiing to do here and you
will be tempted to try to ski until last chair. This will only result in a
lot of tail dragging for the next few days. Ease into your holiday by
knocking off at a reasonable time on your first day.
When you've
finished for the day do some stretching or go for a walk, this will help
you avoid stiffening up. In addition try to ensure that you are drinking
enough water. On our holidays we all tend to drink anything but water. As
a result it is really easy to become dehydrated. This can effect how you
sleep and more importantly how you perform.
Don't be
afraid to download
At the end of
the day don't be afraid to take the lifts from mid mountain down. The
skiing at the bottom of either mountain is typically not that great by the
end of the day. The runs can be full of tired skiers and are usually a bit
icy. You are never a wimp if you take the easy way down. The best skiing
is at the top, that's where you should spend your energy!
