My background
I grew up in Rotenburg,
Germany and started skiing at age 5 in our local club and school ski
programs. I was able to hone my skills on a small hill in a great club
environment and raced skiing on the high school team. I then paid my way
through university (studied physiology and phys ed) by teaching skiing in
the winter month all over the alps.
I also became certified as
a backcountry skiing guide in Europe and have done ski mountaineering and
backcountry skiing in Europe and Canada.
I immigrated to Canada in
1995 and I am teaching private ski lessons in Whistler since 1999.
With my wife I own and operate Rocky Mountain Cycle Tours, offering first
class cycling adventures in Western Canada and in select destinations
world wide. We are raising two boys, Tom and Michael and one girl
Anika.
I love the outdoors and
when not teaching skiing or guiding bike trips I go mountaineering
and windsurfing. I have competed in 3 Eco Challenges, won a Team Spirit
Award, placed 7th in the Camel Trophy 98 in Patagonia and believe me, I
have many great storied to tell. When we ski together do not forget to ask
me about the worst night of my life. I am fluent in both English and
German and I can teach skiing in Spanish.
My teaching Philosophy
My ultimate goal is to
create a playful, fun learning experience. Skiing is ought to be an
adventure! After all you are trying to get away from every day stress
while skiing, right?
I am a big
believer in mileage and varying terrain. Mileage will give you the
repetition and through skiing varying terrain you will be able to practice
under slightly different conditions, which helps to solidify your skills.
Once off the beginner hill skiing is meant to be an all mountain
adventure. We will learn skills as we go and apply them as needed, all
geared to making you a versatile, all terrain, all mountain skier.
Constant feedback is provided verbally and visually (video).
